One device for presence, zones and room climate, fully local.
The KL MZ uses 60 GHz radar to detect where up to four people are in the room, even when they sit still or sleep. Each zone reports separately to your smart home, so lights, heating or music switch area by area.

  • Presence and motion: The 60 GHz radar reports motion like a motion detector and also detects people who sit still, read or sleep. Range up to 6 m, 120 degree detection angle. No camera and no microphone.
  • 13 zones, up to 4 people: 4 detection zones as a rectangle or polygon with up to 8 corners, 4 stay zones for people at rest, such as on a sofa or bed, 4 interference zones against a fan or curtain, plus a boundary that sets where the sensor responds. Each detection zone reports separately to Home Assistant, ioBroker, openHAB or Node-RED.
  • Teach zones on site: Walk the corners of the room, simply use your seat, or let “Learn room” find sources of interference in the empty room by itself. Timeout adjustable per zone. Everything in the browser, no app needed.
  • Local via Wi-Fi and MQTT: Home Assistant detects presence, motion, climate values, zones and number of people automatically, and ioBroker, openHAB and Node-RED are supported as well. No hub, no mandatory cloud. Optionally, our German cloud provides push notifications via the Senvolon web app (iOS, Android) and access to the readings from anywhere over the internet.
  • Room climate, alarm and direct switching: Also measures brightness, temperature, humidity and air pressure. The built-in siren warns right on site. The switching output controls relays or compatible controllers even without a smart home. Powered via USB-C, cable included, power adapter (5 V, 2 to 3 A) not included.

13 zones that prevent false triggers

Instead of one room, the KL MZ sees areas. You draw them on the radar image in the browser or learn them on site.

KL MZ radar view with detection, stay and interference zones and a dashed room boundary

4 detection zones

For example sofa, dining table and desk. Each zone reports separately whether someone is in it. So the light above the dining table only switches on when someone is sitting there.

4 stay zones

Optimized for stationary presence, for example on a sofa or bed. Anyone lying still or reading there stays detected, and the light does not go out.

4 interference zones

Areas the sensor ignores: ceiling fan, curtain at an open window, radiator or plant. With “Learn room”, the KL MZ finds sources of interference in the empty room by itself.

1 room boundary

Defines the area the KL MZ responds to. Anything beyond it, for example in the next room behind a thin wall, triggers nothing.

Learn instead of measuring

Walk the corners or sit in your spot, and the sensor takes over the shape. Timeout per zone is adjustable.

Step by step

How to set up zones, interference zones and the room boundary is shown in the guide Setting up zones on the KL MZ presence sensor.

One device instead of five: presence and motion, temperature and humidity, air pressure, brightness and siren in the KL MZ

One device instead of five

For presence, room climate, brightness and alarm you would otherwise need several devices, each with its own power supply and its own integration. The KL MZ combines everything in one place on the ceiling or wall. One USB-C cable, one Wi-Fi connection, one device in Home Assistant.

  • Presence and motion detector with zones
  • Thermometer and hygrometer
  • Air pressure sensor
  • Brightness sensor
  • Alarm siren

All in one KL MZ.

No app, no hub, no account

Many presence sensors can only be set up with the manufacturer's app or need their own hub. The KL MZ connects directly to your Wi-Fi and you set it up in the browser. Home Assistant discovers the device by itself via MQTT Discovery: presence for the room and for each detection zone with the name you give it, the number of people detected, plus brightness, temperature, humidity and air pressure. You set the siren, LEDs, sensitivity and installation type directly in Home Assistant. More in the article Integrating the presence sensor into Home Assistant.

The KL MZ works with radar waves, without a camera or microphone. It only reports whether and where someone is present. In local operation this data does not leave your network, which is why it also suits bedrooms, bathrooms and children's rooms. If you like, you can additionally use our optional cloud for remote access and push notifications. It is not required.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a hub, an app or an account?

No. The KL MZ connects to your network via Wi-Fi and is set up in the browser. The data goes via MQTT directly to Home Assistant, ioBroker, openHAB or Node-RED. The web app and the cloud are an additional option for remote access.

Which power adapter do I need?

A USB power adapter with 5 V and 2 to 3 A (10 to 15 W), with a USB-A or USB-C port. A 2 m USB-C cable is included, the power adapter is not. Older phone chargers often deliver too little current. Alternatively, you can power it with 5 V from the back using the included connection cable.

Does the KL MZ work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

It uses the 2.4 GHz band. Most routers broadcast on 2.4 and 5 GHz at the same time, in which case it simply connects to the 2.4 GHz network.

Which values do I see in Home Assistant?

Presence for the whole room and for each detection zone, the number of people detected, brightness in lux, temperature, humidity and air pressure. You can switch the siren and LEDs from Home Assistant and set sensitivity, installation type, timeout and alarm mode there as well. With MQTT Discovery, Home Assistant creates everything automatically.

What helps against false triggers from a fan or curtain?

Sources of interference in a fixed place, such as a ceiling fan, a curtain at an open window or a radiator, can be masked with interference zones. With “Learn room”, the KL MZ finds them by itself in the empty room and creates the interference zones. Anything that moves through the whole room, however, cannot be limited to one zone. For that, lower the sensitivity; the sensor will then also detect people sitting still less reliably. Alternatively, ignore such reports in your automation.

Does the presence sensor record images or sound?

No. It has neither a camera nor a microphone. The radar only measures the distance and movement of people.

What is the difference from an infrared motion detector (PIR)?

An infrared motion detector only reacts to movement, for example when someone walks through the room. The radar in the KL MZ also detects people who are sitting still, reading or sleeping, measuring the smallest movements such as breathing. This keeps lights or heating on as long as someone is in the room. More in the guide Presence sensor or motion detector?

How many people are detected?

The KL MZ detects up to four people at the same time and reports their number to your smart home. The other models report presence in the room but do not count people.

Where do I use the KL MZ?

Indoors, wherever several areas should be controlled separately: living room with sofa and dining table, bedroom, kitchen, study, office and hallway.

What warranty do you offer?
