Installation and Configuration of Presence Detectors

How to correctly mount and configure the presence sensor

The Senvolon presence detector is designed for indoor use and can be mounted on both walls and ceilings. For the sensor to work reliably, mounting height, detection angle, power supply, and sensitivity must be correctly considered.

1. Correctly mount the presence detector

Wall mounting

  • Height: 1.5 m to 2 m
  • Mount the sensor firmly and stably
  • The detection area results from the 120° detection angle

Ceiling mounting

  • The higher the ceiling, the larger the detected area
  • Example:
    • Ceiling height: 2.5 m
    • Detection area: approx. 8 m diameter

2. Correctly establish power supply

The presence detector requires 5 V DC. You can power it in two ways:

  • via USB-C
  • via the internal terminal strip

Important:

  • Your power supply unit should provide at least 1 A
  • The sensor gets slightly warm during operation – this is normal

3. Adjust sensitivity

The preset sensitivity is sufficient for most rooms. Adjustment is only necessary if the sensor detects movements you wish to exclude.

Separate settings for motion & static presence:

  • Sensitivity for motion
  • Sensitivity for static presence

Since mmWave radar penetrates thin walls, you should first correctly set the maximum range.

4. Define detection distance (under "More → Settings")

The sensor divides the detection area into stages. You can set the following values:

  • Length of a stage:
    • 0.2 m
    • or 0.75 m (standard)
  • Number of stages: 0 – 8
  • The combination of these results in the maximum detection distance

All changes take effect immediately.

5. Configure sensitivity per stage

A threshold value can be set for each stage:

  • Under More → Motion Stages for movements
  • Under More → Static Stages for static presence

Important: The first two stages of static presence cannot be changed due to technical reasons.

Displayed values per stage:

  • Perception in percent (0–100)
  • Threshold in percent (0–100)

Meaning:

  • 0% threshold = everything is detected
  • 100% threshold = nothing is detected

To completely exclude a stage, set the threshold to 100%.

6. Find optimal settings

Recommendation:

  1. Set the relevant stages so that the perception in the empty room is just below your threshold
  2. Then test:
    • Enter the room
    • Remain in the room
  3. Adjust the sensitivity slightly if necessary

7. Factory settings for the stages

Stage Motion Static
0 50 0
1 50 0
2 40 40
3 30 40
4 20 30
5 15 30
6 15 20
7 15 20
8 15 20

Note: Static presence is only detected if motion has been detected at least once before.
